Who We Are and What We Do
"Keeping Families At The Table"
At the Table Foundation is a Public Charity who's mission is to eliminate the global orphan crisis by supporting families living in extreme poverty with basic resources such as food, clean water and education. Our slogan, Keeping Families at the Table, is executed through our simple yet effective initiatives that provide people with little to no resources the life line needed to sustain their family's well being. In addition to Keeping Families together, At the Table Foundation supports children who are victims of the global orpahn crisis. In partnership with orphanages, At the Table Foundation provides programs for the well being of it's children and supports children who are At Risk of aging out of the orphan care system.
Why We Do What We Do
There are over 750 orphanages in Haiti that are filled with Children who have lost parents to disease, violence or have been abandoned. Many children are sent to these orphanages simply because their parents can no longer afford to care for them.
With over 2,500,000 Haitians living in extreme poverty, Haiti has become the poorest country in the Northern Hemisphere. World Bank in defines extreme poverty as making below the international poverty line of US$1.90 per day.
Less than 50% of households have access to safe drinking water and only 25% benefit from adequate sanitation.
There are approximately 225,000 children ages 5-17 working as child slaves. When parents can no longer provide basic resources they resort to friends or relatives who promise a better life. However, most children end up working for no pay, rarely fed and never given the opportunity to attend school.
At the age of 16 children who are in the Orphan Care system are no longer eligible for adoption. These children who "Age Out" of the system will either work as a nanny in an orphanage, if possible, will return home with no hope for the future, or will become victim to human trafficking.
